For many pilots flying enables them to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and get closer to nature. Flying is a form of meditation that can help heal you, and we have completely reformulated the CURE 2 to increase performance without increasing pilot stress. It has a brand new structure and a profile that’s closer to the Diva. We’ve upped the cell count to 74, and kept the same projected aspect ratio but reduced the arc, which means the flat aspect ratio is lowered to 6.4. The CURE 2 has an impressive top speed of 60km/h, yet full-speed asymmetric collapses are incredibly calm. Designed to be flown fast, the CURE 2 has a new light and efficient B/C steering system too. We’ve kept weight down by using Skytex 27 and 32 cloth, with Skytex 38 on the top-surface leading edge for durability. When you fly the CURE 2 you will soar high to new levels of performance. *M has passed flight and load test and will shortly be fully certified. XS, S, ML, L sizes will soon follow.
TARGET
The CURE 2 is for pilots searching for high performance and low stress. It’s fast on glide with excellent stability in wind and turbulence. Its high cell count and moderate aspect ratio work together to assure excellent performance for its class, and great accessibility.

DOUBLE SKIN LEADING EDGE
The lower surface of the leading edge is folded over on itself to produce a double skin just below the opening of the glider. This is inflated from the behind by the internal pressure of the wing giving a cleaner and more stable leading edge.
50M ITERATIONS FLUID/STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
The future of glider design depends largely on simulations. Instead of designing and producing prototypes one by one, BGD can now accurately simulate hundreds of paragliders using their own unique structural/aero simulation program. In effect, BGD is now able to test virtual prototypes using this programme, and on their paragliders, they make over 200 virtual prototypes and analysing these involved in 50 million iterations of the structural/aero calculations.
CORD CUT BILLOW (CCB)
Cord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of BGD paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge to accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Up to five centimetres of excessive material is created on the sides of an inflated panel bending over a wing profile. Cord Cut Billow technology absorbs the material with a 3D panel resulting in fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.
POST C-BAND
BGD has added a Post-C band running along the top surface which seamlessly moves down to the bottom surface at the tip, connecting directly to the last line cascade. Instead of putting heavy plastic rods above the C lines BGD uses this band to counter the common flip-up ripple caused when applying a little brake. The problem with paragliders is when a little brake has applied the cupping of the trailing edge creates lift which often buckles the profile near the Cs. BGD has solved this problem with the post-C band, an eloquent lightweight, clean and volume reducing solution.
TRIPLE FINGER DIAGONALS
Across the whole chord of the profile, BGD has designed three-piece diagonal supports that pass through the holes in other ribs. They ensure structural integrity by avoiding cloth bias from the ribs and creating a more solid wing even when the brake is applied. THis is particularly important near the trailing edge since the profile is thin and the diagonal ribs are shallow supporting higher loads.
MAXIMISEDÂ UNSUPPORTED CELLS
Optimised unsupported cell groups are designed to match the span-wise load distribution influenced by the line layout. Coupled with a strong internal structure, the line layouts that create more span-wise tension can support more unsupported cells. While maintaining a homogenous wing, this helps to minimise line consumption reducing drag thus improving performance.
WEIGHT-OPTIMISED RIBS
BGD have maintained the strength and rigidity of the ribs while removing unnecessary material. This means less weight for no increase in cost or reduction in strength of the wing. The hole positioning and size depends on the loads taken locally by the sail, and it is thanks to recent developments in BGD software that it is now possible to accurately calculate this.
PROGRESSIVE STABILITY
Progressive stability has been designed into all BGD gliders to help pilots feel turbulence and avoid it. This makes it safer and more comfortable flying.
OPTIMIZED LINE LAYOUT
The line layout has been carefully calculated using an advanced structural calculation programme. Line loads, stretch, knots and angles are take into account and every line is optimised to perfectly maintain glider shape and maximise performance.
SNAP LOCKS
Snap Locks are lightweight, compact attachments that effortlessly connect the brakes to the risers. A small focused magnet inside the catch and an internal locking system hold the handle in place, releasing only if the handles are pulled down towards the pilot. This unique design feature means the handles don’t fall off while kiting, packing, or performing manoeuvres. The Snap Lock system solves many of the problems associated with press-studs and magnets.
B/C STEERING SYSTEM
On most 3-liners the C steering pressure is high when you pull the B riser as well as the C riser, simply because of the high loads on the B-riser. BGC C-steering handle is linked to the B-riser with a 33% ratio: the B is only pulled one third of the C-riser displacement, so the C-steering is lighter. There is also a unique bridge system between the A- and B-risers that keeps the C-steering tight at all deflections of the accelerator.
BRUCE’S NOTES
At BGD we believe in Progressive Stability. Our new simulation program enabled us to tune the span-wise tensions of the CURE 2 in order to achieve the perfect balance between structural rigidity and the wing’s ability to communicate to the pilot about what is happening in the air. This understanding of the air empowers pilots to fly appropriately for the conditions. Of course the CURE 2 has good inherent stability too. We opted to use full chord plastics in the central area of the wing to give it good structural stability, but towards the tips the plastic is in the leading-edge only. This reduces tip cravats, enhancing safety.
